Nelly Korda Pauses Quest for Sixth Consecutive Win

Golf fans and spectators witnessed a surprising turn of events this week as Nelly Korda, a powerhouse in women’s golf, opted out of the JM Eagle LA Championship at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. After a string of five consecutive wins, including a major victory at the Chevron Championship, Korda has decided to take a breather, citing exhaustion from the relentless competition schedule.

Reflecting on her decision, Korda shared, “After the unbelievable week at The Chevron and grinding through the mental and physical challenges of four events in the past five weeks, I am definitely feeling exhausted.” Her statement emphasizes the immense pressure and fatigue that comes with maintaining top form across multiple tournaments.

Korda’s impressive streak began with her win at the LPGA Drive On Championship in late January and was followed by nearly two months off. She returned to claim victories at the Seri Pak Fir Hills Championship, Ford Championship, and T-Mobile Match Play. The LPGA took a week off during the Masters, after which Korda secured her second major championship by finishing 13-under par, defeating Maja Stark by two shots at the Chevron.

This phenomenal run ties her with legends Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam for the most consecutive victories on the LPGA Tour. Korda, aged 25, acknowledged the historical significance of her achievements and the support she received, stating, “The crowds at Carlton Woods this past week were incredible and so too were all the messages received from those watching from afar.”

Looking ahead, Korda’s next opportunity to extend her winning streak will be at the Cognizant Founders Cup scheduled for May 19-22 in Clifton, N.J. Her post resonates with optimism and readiness for future challenges: “I look forward to seeing everyone again in New Jersey!”

As Korda steps back this week to rejuvenate, her decision highlights the critical balance between competition and health in professional sports. Fans and fellow golfers alike eagerly await her return, hopeful to see her continue her historic run in the tournaments ahead.
