Miles Russell to Make PGA Tour Debut at Rocket Mortgage Classic

Fifteen-year-old golf prodigy Miles Russell is set to make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic later this month. This comes after the young golfer from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, received a sponsor exemption to participate in the event at the Detroit Golf Club starting June 27.

Russell, who recently became the youngest player in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament. “Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players,” he said. “I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month.”

Russell’s rise to prominence in the golf world has been nothing short of remarkable. In April, he made headlines by shooting a 5-under 66 at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in Longwood, Florida, securing a spot in the top 25 at just 15 years old. This achievement made him the youngest player to do so on either the PGA Tour or the Korn Ferry Tour since records began in 1983.

In addition to his performance on the Korn Ferry Tour, Russell boasts an impressive junior golf resume. He was named the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Player of the Year in 2023, a year that saw him win the Junior PGA Championship by seven shots and become the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship. These accomplishments have cemented his reputation as one of the most promising young talents in golf.

“Miles has proved with his many accomplishments at such a young age that he belongs, and we are excited to see him compete alongside the world’s best golfers here at Detroit Golf Club,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Russell is currently a high school freshman who has been taking online classes since the eighth grade to accommodate his rigorous golf schedule. He will join other teenage golfers like Kris Kim and Blades Brown in making their PGA Tour debuts this season. Kim successfully made the cut at The CJ Cup in May.

If Russell manages to make the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he will be following in the footsteps of Guan Tianlang of China, who made the cut at the Masters at the age of 14 in 2013. Russell’s entry into the PGA Tour marks an exciting new chapter in his young career and a potential preview of a future star in the making.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic runs from June 27 to 30, with Rickie Fowler set to defend his title at the Detroit Golf Club. Fans and golf enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching to see how young Miles Russell fares against the seasoned pros.
