The final day at Muirfield Village Golf Club was intense. With swirling winds and tough greens, players had a hard time. Scheffler shot a two-over-par 74, barely enough to beat Collin Morikawa by one stroke. His crucial par putt on the 18th hole clinched the win. Afterward, he celebrated with his newborn son, Bennett, and received congratulations from tournament host Jack Nicklaus.
Scheffler’s victory is historic. He’s the first since Jon Rahm in 2020 to win the Memorial with an over-par final round. Plus, he joined Tiger Woods as the only players to win the Memorial, Masters, Players Championship, and Arnold Palmer Invitational in the same year.
Scheffler reflected, “Winning at Mr. Nicklaus’ course is incredibly special. A couple of years ago, I missed a crucial putt here. Mr. Nicklaus told me I’d make it one day, and today, I did.”
Sunday at Muirfield Village was brutal. The average score was nearly 75, the highest of the tournament. Even top players like Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry struggled, with Lowry scoring an 85. Morikawa summed it up: “It’s just tough golf. You have to hit good shots.”
Scheffler’s win sets the stage for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. He’s a top favorite. “We all start at even par, but I like how my game is right now,” he said confidently.
Scheffler’s Memorial win shows his determination and skill. With an incredible season so far, the golf world eagerly watches his next moves. Scottie Scheffler is a name to remember.
