In the picturesque surroundings of The Woodlands, Texas, Nelly Korda achieved a feat reminiscent of golf legends, clinching her fifth consecutive victory and her second major title at the Chevron Championship. Korda’s final-round performance, carding a 69, secured her a two-stroke win over Maja Stark, further etching her name into the annals of LPGA history alongside Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam as one of the only players to win five straight starts.

Speaking after her historic win, Korda shared insights into her mental game, “It’s an amazing feeling because all the hard work and the doubt that I had in my head from 2021, I worked through it.” She emphasized the simplicity and flow of her play, which she believes have been key to her incredible streak, “If I stay in my bubble and I keep golf simple and let it flow, then I can have so much fun out here.”

The tournament wasn’t without its challenges. The final round saw Korda facing significant pressure, especially with an errant drive on the 11th and a missed birdie opportunity on the 13th that could have shifted the momentum. However, her resilience shone through as she navigated the back nine with strategic precision and calm.

Korda’s caddie, Jason McDede, played a crucial role in reminding her to maintain focus and avoid dwelling on past disappointments, notably their 2020 playoff loss at the ANA Inspiration. “We got some pretty big heartbreak at Dinah losing in that playoff, and I think that’s kind of what we didn’t talk about it,” McDede reflected on their past experiences to bolster her confidence through the final holes.

As she approached the iconic 18th hole, Korda was not only battling the course but also the rising challenge from Stark, who closed within one stroke. Yet, Korda’s approach shot to the fringe of the green set up a birdie that clinched her victory, allowing her to follow tradition by joyfully jumping into the pond beside the 18th green.

This win not only cements Korda’s status as a dominant force on the LPGA Tour but also highlights her mental and physical comeback following a challenging two-year period marked by health issues and a dip in form. Her triumphant return speaks volumes about her dedication and ability to overcome adversity, serving as an inspiration for golfers and fans alike.

With the Chevron Championship added to her resume, Korda looks forward to the rest of the season with confidence, ready to extend her winning streak and continue making history in the world of women’s golf.
